4 magical days in the village of Syðrugøta, marked this year's G! Festival.
The small fishing village that each year is transformed in to one of the most unique festival sites, played host to some 80 performances and events with music from headliner Rag’n’Bone Man to the psychedelic West African Funk of Ba Cissoko. Festive Hallelujahs from The Harlem Gospel Choir and dancing on the beach into the night with the sounds of Faithless DJ set, who played the closing set on the main stage for 2018, a testament to the festival's oldest trademarks: Stirring the music pot!
This year saw a great mix of Faroese newcomers like Frum and Lea Kampmann, alongside veterans like Teitur, Eivør and Marius Ziska delight the audiences with their Nordic sounds, showcasing the wide talents the Faroe Islands has on offer. Choirs, theatre, Performance Arts, talks, Faroese chain dancing, children’s shows, and of course DJs performing late in to the night at the various hidden gem venues around the village, it all contributed to what is an annual show and experience unlike any other.
“This is our best one yet” says festival director Sigvør Laksá. “We had around 5.500 people at our festival. The weather was mostly nice and the project with re-usable glasses was a huge success, so the festival site has never been as beautful and clean.”
Mark your calendars, as the 18th edition of G! Festival will take place next year, 11 – 13.July!
