PJ Harvey and Tenacious D announced for Roskilde Festival

8. December 2015

The queen of alternative rock, the self-proclaimed ”greatest band in the world” and highly acclaimed Danish dream rock: PJ Harvey, Tenacious D and Blaue Blume will be playing Denmark’s Roskilde Festival. 32 of the 175 artists have been revealed, and tickets are now on sale. With 200 days to go, the Danish non-profit festival has already confirmed artists such as New Order, Foals, Wiz Khalifa and Red Hot Chili Peppers. A total of 32 acts have been confirmed with today’s three additions.

With the overwhelming and timeless concept album ’Let England Shake’ in 2011, the 46-year-old rock icon PJ Harvey became the first ever artist to win the Mercury Music Prize for a second time. She subsequently kept a low profile for a while but has since invited her fans into the studio to attend the recording of her 9th as-of-yet untitled album. With these new songs she will be playing Roskilde Festival for the fourth time, 21 years after her first performance at the festival.

Tenacious D certainly don’t lack self-confidence. The self-proclaimed “greatest band in the world” has played sold-out shows all over the world, and the duo will be bringing their theatrical rock’n’roll to Roskilde Festival packed with perfect doses of insanity, cheesy puns, sing-along and costumes aplenty. First and foremost, though, Tenacious D is a loud tribute to the biggest myths and clichés of hard rock, and Jack Black and Kyle Gass will bring their full band to the party.

Head of Programme Anders Wahrén says:

“It’s been five years since PJ Harvey’s last visit to Roskilde Festival, and we’ve been monitoring her closely to see when she would start playing shows again and have new material ready. She likes to experiment from album to album, and we’re positive that she will once again surprise her fans at the festival.

Tenacious D is an act that our rock fans have been hoping to see for years, and we’re thrilled to finally be able to present them. In terms of popularity, they’ve grown from cult heroes to headliners, and we can’t wait to have them play our Orange Stage where they will serve us an utterly crazy dish of rock music full of love and glorious sing-along moments.”

Highly acclaimed Danish dream rock
Roskilde Festival has been keeping an eye on Danish band Blaue Blume for quite some time, and they already played the festival’s Rising stage this year, a stage dedicated to young bands on the verge of their breakthrough. Their debut album ‘Syzygy’ has just been released and is listed as a contender for album of the year practically everywhere in their native Denmark.
Since their show at this year’s Roskilde Festival, Blaue Blume have played several sold-out shows in Denmark, and the quartet is already creating quite a buzz internationally with their grandiose dream rock. Returning to Roskilde Festival 2016, the band has now taken the leap from underground phenomenon to an acclaimed hope for the future of Danish rock music.
