The release of 5K HD‘s debut album "And to in A" (2017) catapulted the band almost immediately to supergroup status. United on stage they proved to be a force of nature, celebrated at pop festivals as an atmospheric experience, at jazz festivals as virtuosic innovators. Their freedom and risk-taking are practically unparalleled, as is their ability to stay perfectly balanced on constantly shifting musical terrain.

There is nothing new to the world in a good solo artist. What is new to the world is the ability of artists such as Tash Sultana, Thom Yorke or Justin Vernon to create a feeling of the whole band on stage when they are actually just playing alone. Bartleby Delicate is shifting between roots folk and indietronica, using experimental sounds and electronic instruments to tell their literary stories.

As a child, Roger Sellers dreamt of being Phil Collins. The Genesis drummer with his lushly mixed sound was an icon to the six-year-old boy. As Bayonne, he released a tribute to the euphoria of being alive with his debut Primitives, an album full of ambient pop songs with heart and soul. The multi-instrumentalist fuses tender piano lines, ethereal vocals, and sophisticated rhythms into emotional and original productions.

Supposedly Stephanie Widmer and Alexander Köck only started their project Cari Cari in order to get their music into a Tarantino movie. With the track of their debut album "ANAANA" Cari Cari will simply proceed to become the wildest new Austrian band, whose erotically-charged, intoxicating rock has still been heard by far too few. And if the psychedelic duo's shows don't make you ecstatic, perhaps you ought to check your pulse and give it a nudge if needed.

Cascade Lakes are set to release their debut early next year (recorded in Cologne with Jan Niklas Jansen and Björn Sonneberg). Fans of sophisticated musical narratives can look forward to what Jan Schewe, Fabio Papais, and Tobias Noormann have cobbled together. The three-piece uses everything in the repertoire of the eclectic 21st-century rock band to craft innovative indie with pop sensibilities.

Low Island is the collaboration between DJ/Producers Jamie Jay & Carlos Posada, bassist Jacob Lively, and jazz drummer Felix Higginbottom. You’ll never find Low Island forced into wearing a creative straightjacket. In this respect, they are truly creatures of the 21st century, seeing no contradiction in slipping between uplifting electronica and intimate ballads – or merging the two. Low Island belong to the now.

The Budapest-based band Platon Karataev, named after Leo Tolstoy's character, received huge attention with their first single "Elevator" in 2016 which was ranked no. 4 on Spotify's German viral top50 playlist. In less than a year, their debut album "For Her" (2017) was streamed more than 2 million times. The band was recently selected as INES #talent 2019 and is playing at all major Hungarian festivals in summer 2019.

Seed to Tree developed from their folk roots into a dedicated indie-pop band reminiscent of acts like Bombay Bicycle Club and Ben Howard. These past years, Seed to Tree have been touring a lot in Europe, supporting e.g. Beirut, Villagers and The Temper Trap. Their new album "Proportions" sounds darker compared to their past work, questioning the emotional, intellectual and spiritual proportions within ourselves and society.

Pouring the entire beauty of a relationship into sounds and words, putting music to the feeling of sharing and intimacy, but also the longing for it—the music of Anger performs this miracle without undue pathos. The duo creates dream pop with an Italian flair that always sounds airy, light and free - relaxed and sweet pop gems, at times driven by funk grooves or infused with alternative rock or indie elements.

Lively, yet dreamy pop music with a melancholy side—this is the fine line Atzur walk with their sophisticated arrangements. Singer Victoria sounds like a baleful fairy over delicate piano lines, while drummer Paul delivers rhythmic accents with sparing, powerful beats. The Spaniard and her Iranian-Austrian partner manage to walk the dangerous tightrope that separates epic drama from tired cliché.

“Kili Kili”, the first Black Bones’ album, was a kind of compilation of the best songs written by Anthonin Ternant (former member of the Bewitched Hands), the new tracks have been shaped by ten hands. Both rock and melodic, they are dressed in medieval atmospheres or Machiavellian harmonies, but are once again potential hits.

It's hardly possible in 2019 to give fewer hoots about the razzle-dazzle of the music biz than Na'el Shehade and Via Rosa. The Chicago duo realizes its uncompromising DIY vision. They've come up with, recorded, arranged, and produced everything themselves, without paying any attention to what's hot and trendy. Together they create soul-influenced dance floor bangers that take no prisoners.

Jackie’s perpetually and dangerously flirting with kitsch, encapsulated by his love for satin shirts and bright coloured suits which he wears on stage during his Spectacular One Man Moon Man Karaoke Show Extraordinaire - as he calls it. Jackie’s a discreet observer and a fabulous crooner, who tenderly relates the stories that surround him in a colourful combination of pop, funk and disco that is very much his own.

In order to study singing and composing, 19-year-old Lisa Pac moved to London. After graduation from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, she played an impressive string of gigs in the city's clubs, and eventually moved back to Vienna. The creative atmosphere of Vienna was invigorating for the young songwriter, who names Jessie Reyez as one of her most important inspirations.

After graduating from high school in her native Austria, Mathea went straight to audition for The Voice of Germany, where she went all the way to the show's knockout stage under the guidance of German singer Yvonne Catterfeld. But 21-year-old Mathea's debut single “2x” proves that she doesn't need to go through the talent show machine.

With songs such as "Still Me" and "Duchess", Miblu from Vienna has conveyed clever messages of empowerment. On top of that, Miriam Orth-Blau is a successful jewelry designer, which may explain why she displays such attention to details. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the perfectly balanced electronic arrangements of her first singles.

Oehl are the Viennese songwriter Ari Oehl and Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Hjörtur Hjörleifsson. Their German lyrics grow in an especially tight knit atmosphere where melancholy meets ease, where floating meets dance. It is music for dusk and dawn, for the hazy lines between alertness and a deep sleep. Oehl operate at the interface of music, literature and art, taking the listeners on a journey.

Honest, romantic, but also kind of lost: That’s the music of the Czech duo teepee. Their 2016 debut "Albatross" made waves and sold out venues in their home country before calling attention to itself far beyond the Republic's borders. Teepee create beautiful vocal harmonies as easily as if they were simply breathing, sleeping, or dreaming.

Thorsteinn Einarsson had his big break on the Austrian talent show "Die große Chance" in 2014. After finishing as the third runner-up, his song "Leya" went straight to the Austrian national charts. With a fan base that just won't stop growing, Thorsteinn Einarsson's shows are regularly sold out. His second album "INGI" is out this year and promises to add exciting new facets to the Austrian-Icelandic songwriter's live repertoire.

Playfully blending her Japanese and Danish roots into a wild hybrid, Ida Kudo defies mainstream uniformity without losing even a fraction of her pop appeal. The multi-talented artist demonstrates this independence on stage in eccentric and self-assured performances that reveal why Björk and Missy Elliott are not only her influences, but kindred spirits.

Electronic three piece Say Yes Dog have released their sophomore album titled “Voyage” which is inspired by their travels through Ghana, India, Japan and Vietnam and self-produced by the band, with final touches added by producer Zebo Adam. Fans can follow the evolution in Say Yes Dog’s songwriting, a touch of 80’s nostalgia, more analogue sounds and an overall maturity in their music.

Stoner rock has never really gone out of fashion, so it wouldn't be fair to say that Black Mirrors have tried to start a revival. But the four-piece from Brussels certainly enriches and refreshes the genre with the bluesy voice of Marcella Di Troia, emphasized brilliantly by the tuned-down guitars. This music not only contains the heart and soul of its creators, but also a great deal of rhythmic variation and passionate, original songwriting.

Using febrile distortion, reverb and the eccentric vocals of Sophie Löw, Culk creates an indie sound whose roots are clearly in post-punk. However, an old recipe from the nostalgia drawer, the project from Vienna misses updates of dreamlike intensity, brings Shoegaze from the nineties with neo-psychedelic effects and also creates the balancing act between stormy youth prose and unpretentious interior view.

Deep Glaze absolutely have a penchant for the fuzzy sound of the sixties. But that doesn't mean that the Budapest four-piece doesn't have fresh ideas—on the contrary. The band name is strangely fitting for music that shimmers mysteriously as though covered in a thick glaze, with a heavy dose of psychedelic rock that sounds more modern than anyone has come to expect in the midst of all these revivals and retro waves.
Whereas Jesse’s earlier work drew heavily from folk and roots-rock – Les Inrocks called him the “new hero of modern folk” – the songs on his new album "Now" are prismatic and forward-facing, recalling the adventurous pop of Tame Impala, Talk Talk and Perfume Genius. Mixed by Matt Wiggins in the UK (Adele, London Grammar, Lorde, U2), Jesse Mac Cormack‘s astonishing debut album arrives unhurried: a work of ardent, kaleidoscopic art-rock that the culmination of a meticulous five-year evolution.

With their two singles released last year, MID CITY made it very clear that they aren't another random garage band from Australia. "Dead Broke Blues" and the rousing goodbye to bygones "Old Habits" had the hearts of indie lovers skipping a beat within a few bars: energetic guitars, galloping drums, and vocals that explode into irresistible hooks. With their anthemic songwriting, they are sure to become an international hit.

Sophie Lindinger, better known as half of the duo Leyya, gathered Mira Lu Kovacs, Kathrin Kolleritsch, and Barbara Jungreithmeier to form My Ugly Clementine, which sold out their first in Vienna before even dropping a single. When the four-piece did release "Never Be Yours," the anticipation proved justified. Their playful guitar sound lives somewhere between indie and post-punk, and quite simply hits the spot.

Tan LeRacoon crafts sonic curiosities with the conviviality of his ring-tailed animal namesakes and the charm of a cosmopolitan hippie crooner. The result is highly danceable punk with wind instruments, such as "She Said She's Sad," or thumping, soulful numbers such as "Tanuki Is Back." - this is the kind of idiosyncratic music you rarely hear, especially with an outstanding live band.

Jerky like whiplash, dirty as grease and hot as the desert, "Dirty Deep" will mark you like a red-hot iron. Now, as a trio, they’re driving France wild with their modern juke-joint blues, which is faithful to tradition yet grungy. The effect is something between dance and shock-therapy.

Ebru Düzgün is just as sick of stereotypes, generalizations, and xenophobia as the majority of people. The Turkish-German rapper has fought against prejudice and everyday racism. Time to take a stand, like she has done with her debut "Kanak For Life", an album that exudes confidence without becoming mired in mere provocation - Arabic-inspired rap with slick pop appeal of this kind is a completely new niche.
When it comes to rap that flows over highly emotional sound, Gerard has been the man of the hour ever since his album "Blausicht". There's currently no German-language artist that can compete with the Viennese whiz and his ambiguous rap narratives. His delivery is more pensive poetry slamming than take-no-prisoners rhyming and the beats set a new standard by incorporating bass music, downtempo and grime.

Hunney Pimp says dancing has always been her thing, so she'd likely be performing in musicals now—if not for the constant stream of beats and lyrics she's come up with since the age of 15, and if back then, her sister hadn't been heavily into Eminem. Luckily, those are only ifs. Since then she's evolved into a major asset of Alpine hip hop together with her producer Melonoid.

KeKe sounds nothing like any other contemporaries, male or female. Her original and charmingly cool sound blends trap beats with crooning vocals and carefully selected samples. Her career started last year, when she uploaded the track "Donna Selvaggia" to YouTube for fun. She will be featured on Trettmann's upcoming album - one of Germany's most acknowledged contemporary rapper.

Young Luxembourg rapper, MAZ, has closed the distance between aspiring artist and rising talent in a very short period of time. Roughly two and a half years in the game, he's already playing to larger audiences - his latest show saw him supporting Nicki Minaj at the Rockhal. Maz's lyrical depth and technical verse makes him an authentic wordsmith, while his flow and charisma onstage gives you an insight into his bright future.

Based in Prague, Noisy Pots came up to the music scene in 2014 with their “DIY kitchen electro” style. Acoustic sound of pots, buckets and other stuff from the kitchen and garage combined with live synths, samples and vocals delivers a unique and unusual sonic timbre. Their live performances are full of spontaneous energy and catchy grooves.

Taxi Kebab is a mix between electronic analog music, a modulated guitar and a buzuq, influenced by the moroccan chaâbi and music from the middle-east. Their music is a night ride through moroccan roads and landscapes, between instrumental improvisation, songs in Darija and ardent outbursts. A bicultural, bipolar and eclectic music, with a sprinkle of white sauce and harissa.
